Brownies provides a safe, unique space where girls can be comfortable just being themselves. Through activities that are fun, cooperative and girl-led, girls learn leadership skills and build self-confidence. We welcome members from all ethnic, religious and cultural groups and have done so for 100 years. Character, conduct and service to the community are core qualities of Brownie Guides, expressed in the Brownie Promise and Law, which each girl can understand and apply in her everyday life. But Brownie meetings are also huge fun — packed with games, crafts and new activities. Each girl joins a small team of Six who help and encourage each other to try new things and join in the challenges. So far this year Uffington Brownies have gone up a climbing wall, time travelled through the 20th century, designed dances, conducted home safety surveys, ventured out to star gaze and explore a Planetarium, raised lots of money for Haiti, cooked pizzas, held an indoor camp, learned map and compass skills, planned and led hikes, built kites, tried out Kung Fu and met a lot of Labrador puppies. With the help and support of parents they have also had a chance to go away on an adventure Brownie holiday, either at PGL Liddington or Acorn Adventures. Older Brownies have joined in with Shrivenham Guides for a taster session of kayaking. Uffington Brownies relies on a rota of parents to keep running, and all families contribute one evening a term to help run the girls’ Brownie meetings. The pack meets every Wednesday during Uffington’s term time and membership is open to any girl from her 7th birthday up to the age of 11.
